Have you ever seen a 24m long backdrop crafted entirely from cardboard?
At the Singapore Archifest 2026 Conference, that's exactly what greeted thousands of architects, designers, students, and industry professionals as they gathered to explore this year's theme, "Convergence: Themes and Variations." Held at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre, the conference became a platform for inspiring keynote presentations, thought provoking discussions, and conversations shaping the future of architecture and design.
To bring the event experience to life, Paper Carpenter designed and fabricated a series of immersive event installations that transformed the venue from entrance to exhibition halls. The highlight was a 24m long backdrop crafted in cardboard, creating a bold visual statement that welcomed attendees while showcasing the versatility of sustainable materials on a large scale.
Beyond the feature backdrop, visitors were guided through illuminated entrance portals, large format programme walls, and the iconic "CONVERGENCE" installations, all thoughtfully designed to strengthen the event's visual identity while making navigation effortless.
Inside the conference, we extended the experience with functional cardboard furniture, including custom tables, stools, and collaborative seating areas that encouraged conversations, networking, and learning. Every element was designed to demonstrate how sustainable materials can seamlessly combine functionality, creativity, and contemporary aesthetics.
From striking visual landmarks to practical event solutions, this project reflects how cardboard can be transformed into memorable event experiences without compromising on design or impact.
