Gallop of Dreams is a Chingay art installation co-created with the students of Lian Hua Primary School. The project celebrates imagination, community collaboration, and creative expression, bringing together young minds and artists to transform a shared vision into a vibrant installation for the Chingay Parade.
Inspired by the upcoming Year of the Horse, the installation reimagines the unicorn in its mythical form. At the heart of the artwork, the unicorn gallops courageously through colorful rainbows and into the sky. The narrative behind “Gallop of Dreams” reflects hope, aspiration, and the boundless possibilities of dreams. It serves as a reminder that when guided by faith and imagination, our wishes can truly take flight.
This project holds a special place for us because it represents a different creative scope from our typical work at Paper Carpenter. While our studio is known for specializing in engineered cardboard architecture and large-scale cardboard installations, this collaboration allowed us to explore a broader artistic approach. Instead of focusing solely on cardboard structures, the installation was created using a variety of recyclable materials, encouraging students to experiment and express their ideas through sustainable art-making.
Working closely with the students of Lian Hua Primary School, the project became a platform for co-creation where their perspectives and creativity played a central role. Through workshops and hands-on making, the students contributed their interpretations of the concept of “WISH,” bringing the installation to life through their own imaginative lenses.
The process was not only about building an installation but also about creating a meaningful learning journey. Students had the opportunity to experience how ideas evolve from initial drawings and hands-on crafts to the final installation, all while exploring how art, sustainability, and storytelling can converge in a public space.
Gallop of Dreams stands as a celebration of community spirit and the power of collaboration. By combining artistic direction with the creativity of young participants, the installation represents a collective effort that highlights imagination, courage, and hope for the future!
