Chinese New Year at the Istana

Chinese New Year at the Istana

A Feast of Art, Culture & Community This Chinese New Year!

This Chinese New Year was a truly special one for us at Paper Carpenter, as our TingkART Food! art installation took centre stage at none other than The Istana’s Garden Party 🍊🌳! Co-created by Toa Payoh East Community Arts and Culture Club together with the passionate residents, and facilitated by our team. This vibrant and playful installation celebrates traditional reunion dishes and the joy they bring to families across Singapore — Food!

The installation was thoughtfully reimagined to spotlight Pen Cai (盆菜), a cherished reunion dish that symbolises abundance, unity, and prosperity. Crafted with sustainability in mind using our signature cardboard artistry, the piece not only delighted visitors with its larger-than-life presentation but also sparked conversations around heritage and eco-conscious design.

Being able to showcase our work in such a prestigious space was truly an honour. From meeting grassroots leaders and government ministers to witnessing the public’s joyful reactions, the entire experience reminded us why we do what we do — to bring art to the heartlands and beyond while nurturing a culture of creativity and collaboration.

Here’s to more huat collaborations, where art meets heart, and culture meets creativity!
